Sheringham Park

Sheringham Park is a combination of landscape park and woodland garden.

Humphry Repton designed the park in 1812 and is considered to be one of his outstanding designs.

The woodland garden is famous for the large display of rhododendrons and azaleas which flower mid-May to June.
A hard access path enables wheel chairs to be used but there are steep inclines. Several viewing towers have been erected to allow panoramic views across the flowering bushes.

The landscaped area gives waymarked walks through mature woods and meadows to viewing “Follies” in the grounds and views of the house. [Not open to the public]. There are many magnificent views across to the coast. Look out for the gaps in the vegetation that suddenly give an unexpected view.

Waymarked paths lead to the North Norfolk Railway. Poppy Line, and the cliff tops.

Look out for and try to find the Pocket Handkerchief Tree, which is easier to locate when it is flower.

A new eco-friendly visitors centre, shop, refreshment centre and toilet was opened this year. It is well worth enquiring about the innovative way the complex works. A large car park is available that does not intrude upon the landscape.

More detailed information is available on their web site.
