North Walsham

North Walsham dates back to Saxon times. Edward lll introduced flemish weavers to the area to raise the standard of the weaving of wool. Nearby Worstead gave its name to Worsted cloth.

The market cross was originally built in the mid-sixteenth century but was destroyed by fire in 1600, and was replaced as it is today.

In 1606 the Paston family founded the Paston School where Lord Nelson attended as a pupil.

Latterly the town has flourished through the manufacturing and agricultural industry.
